HOW TO MEASURE FOR A LACE WIG

Make sure you measure your head with your hair the way it will lay underneath your wig. You want your hair to lay as flat as possible. You will need a cloth measuring tape. When you measure, do not pull the tape tight, but do measure for a snug fit. We suggest you measure your head at least (3) times for accuracy. Remember your wig will be constructed based on the measurements you submit. Also when measuring we suggest you allow ¼ of an inch beyond your hairline so when you glue your perimeter, the unit does not stick to your natural hair.

1)  Measure the circumference of your head
Measure all around your head. Place the tape flat against your forehead and wrap around your head. The tape should rest just above your ears and also sit on the nape of your neck.

_______inches.

2)  Measure front of head to nape of neck
Looking downward, place the tape measure approximately ¼ inch in front of your hairline at the center of your forehead, and measure back to the nape of your neck going over the crown of your head.

_______inches.

3)  Measure ear to ear across forehead
Place tape just in front of your ear at your hairline and measure across to your other ear. Bring the tape across your front hairline.

_______inches.

4)  Measure ear to ear over top of head
Place tape at your hairline directly above your ear measure over the top of your head to the hairline above your other ear.

_______inches.

5)  Measure temple to temple around the back of head
Place the tape measure at your hairline from your temple going around the back of your head to your other temple.

_______inches.

6)  Measure nape of neck
Measure the width of your hairline across the nape of the neck.

_______inches.

HOW TO APPLY LACE UNIT

  1. Make sure you trim excessive lace from unit after assuring proper fit. Be sure to leave enough lace to secure a firm bond.
  2. Clean area around perimeter of head with soap and water to remove any oily deposits.
  3. Wipe the visible line all around head with alcohol. This area must be clean in order for adhesives to stick.
  4. Apply skin shield or skin prep to protect your skin from the adhesives.
  5. After skin shield dries, apply your adhesive with a brush applicator around front hairline. Let dry for 10-15 minutes. (apply front of unit first, once secure then apply sides and nape)
  6. Apply a second coat of adhesive, wait another 10 minutes to dry. When the adhesive is dry is should feel tacky. Now you are ready to apply your lace wig.

If you are using a bonding tape with the liquid adhesive place tape directly around edges of unit.
  7. Place unit on head, keep hair pulled back away from glue with hair clips. Position your wig how you want it to fit on your head. When you are sure you have it where you want it, lay the edges of the lace on the glued areas and apply a little pressure on the hairline with the tip of a tail-comb or press with finger tips.
You may have to do some adjusting for the proper fit. After unit is in place around front hairline you can apply more pressure to secure the unit.
  8. Now its time to secure the unit on sides and nape. Repeat steps 5-7.
  9. After you are have the unit secured all around, clean up extra glue with cloth and isopropyl alcohol.
  10. Tie a scarf around your edges to help secure the fit. Wait 20-30 minutes before removing the scarf and styling.

FYI: After showering or working out, you might feel like your bond has weakened. Its O.K., the unit is still attached securely, but the bond has softened because of heat and moisture. Don’t touch the wig, as your body cools down, the bond will harden again.

At times you might notice dust attaching itself to the adhesive on your hairline. The best time to clean this off is right after showering. Apply isopropyl alcohol on the tip of a clean cloth, clip your hair back and gently wipe the edges of the lace to remove build up.

HOW TO REMOVE LACE UNIT

  1. Start by applying solvent around perimeter, messaging it in with your fingertips.
  2. Let it sit for 5 minutes and start gently lifting lace away from scalp. Be careful not to pull out your own hair.
  3. If lace does not lift, apply more solvent to break the bond. Rub tightly bonded areas in circular motion to allow the lace to separate from the skin.
  4. Gently lift lace while continuing to work solvent in. Remove carefully.

CLEANING HAIRLINE

  1. Once unit is off, wipe the perimeter of head with isopropyl alcohol to remove excessive adhesive residue and solvent.
  2. To get adhesive and residue out of hair, apply solvent directly to hairline and allow it to breakdown. With a fine tooth comb you can began lightly combing edges to remove residue.
  3. Wipe area clean and prepare to shampoo and condition your own hair.

HOW TO WASH LACE UNIT

Instructions are described using our full line of NEARLY NATURAL PRODUCTS

First place your unit on a waterproof wig stand. Dampen hair and apply NEARLY NATURAL Shampoo. Do not bunch hair up whole lathering and avoid circular motions, which can cause tangling of the hair. Comb hair gently with fingertips, lathering shampoo while finger combing, work in gently, rinse hair with luke warm water, then saturate hair with NEARLY NATURAL Softening Solution, let solution sit fro 2-5 minutes, then apply NEARLY NATURAL Conditioner (do not rinse Softening Solution prior to applying Conditioner). Let conditioner and Softening Solution sit on hair for up to 5 minutes or longer to penetrate, moisturize and condition. You can gently comb hair with a wide tooth comb to remove any tangles. Rinse conditioner and softening solution out completely, pat hair dry and apply NEARLY NATURAL Moisture Mist, while hair is still wet,  this is a leave in conditioner that strengthens the hair and moisturizes. Once unit is completely dry, turn inside out and place back on wig stand, apply (2) coats of KNOT SEALER directly on the inside cap, try not to get spay directly on hair. Let first coat dry before applying the second coat. You can use a blow dryer to speed the drying process. Make sure you spray the product outside or in a well ventilated area. KNOT SEALER is used to secure the hand tied knots from slipping off the cap. This product is highly recommended at least after every 2-3 washes. Once KNOT SEALER is dry, cap should feel a little crispy. Now you are ready to apply and style your unit.

HAIR DENSITY

When hair is added to the base of a unit it is referred to as hair density. Hair density can be described as the thickness of hair. The lower the density the more visible the scalp will be. Density ranges from light to extra heavy. We recommend light at hairline and medium throughout wig to create a natural appearance.

Light Density: 90% thickness of an average head of hair
Light / Medium Density: 100% thickness of an average head of hair
Medium Density: 110% thickness of an average head of hair
Medium / Heavy Density: 120-140% thickness of an average head of hair
Heavy Density: -150% thickness of an average head of hair
Extra Heavy Density: -180% thickness of an average head of hair

MEDICAL HAIR LOSS

Hair plays a significant role in the lives of many women. A woman's hair is the first physical characteristic one notices. Hair loss is not only a cosmetic concern, but my create feelings of vulnerability. Losing your hair can be one of the most devastating things you will ever have to cope with. We all know our self-image affects our self-esteem, and when hair loss occurs, it can become very emotional.

If you are being treated for medical hair loss, and would like to purchase a custom lace wig, we strongly suggest you contact your medical insurance company for pre-approval and instructions for claim reimbursement. Once you have this information have your doctor write you a prescription for a Cranial Hair Prosthesis, which is the medical term most insurance companies recognize. It’s important that the prescription states “Cranial Hair Prosthesis”, and not “Custom Lace Wig”.

Most insurance companies cover from 80-100% for expenses used for the purpose of purchasing hair replacement. We also recommend you take photos of your hair loss, keep copies of all receipts, invoices and prescriptions. Send the copies with your claim to your insurance company or HMO. It may also help if you have your doctor include a statement on the prescription that reads, “for patients’ emotional stability”, as well as include the ICD-9 code.

California Lace Wigs, adheres to the medical guidelines for hair loss prosthesis. Upon placing your order you will be assigned a personal consultant who will guide you through the process of ordering your hair replacement. Your invoice will read “Cranial Hair Prosthesis” to match the prescription written by your doctor for the submission of reimbursement to your insurance company.

For more information on reimbursement, please contact your insurance company and speak with your doctor about your options.
